We started the year with a new committee structure. This year we received a boost to our finances with Nicolle Flint (Federal member for Boothby) agreeing to print our newsletters for us. This enabled us to provide full colour and expanded content for this popular medium, diverting printing costs towards other worthy events and activities; so that our advertising sponsorship go much further than before.
With our Grant from the City of Marion we have managed to expand our website and social media to include more community groups, and connect more people in the community via our forums and campaigns. The McConnell Reserve campaign really mobilised and engaged the local community; the resulting forum and deputation to Council showed that we can run a professional and successful campaign on local issues. The outcome was that Council have deferred the sale pending further community consultation about the eastern side redevelopment. A win win for democracy.
We had a very successful Annual Public meeting at the Kauri Community and Sports Centre, attended by over 80 people. Amongst other things we presented the results of our MRA (5049 CC)Community Survey The response to the survey was proportionately a significant result in terms of level of engagement and quality of inputs. It gives us a strong platform for our next year’s activities and the development of a more comprehensive 5 year strategic plan. The key findings were:
