2021 Free Movie Night & AGM 25 Nov 2021
Our final social event this year to celebrate our year living carefully and watch an internationally awarded movie The Battle for Jericho. Filmed in and around Marino. Written, directed and produced by local resident Rob George (Selkie, The River Kings, Captain Johnno) Trailer
"Over 40 happy movie goers attended the 5049 Coastal Community Associations end of year social and AGM . With creative free movie snacks and beverages, the punters were treated to a mercifully short AGM report and election of the new committee, all against the backdrop of heritage adverts including one for Bile Pills!! The main event was the awarded and soon to be syndicated "Battle for Jericho" made in Marino by Marino movie mogul Rob George. It's a Sci Fi horror spoof with an environmental message, don't mess with the water. An enjoyable night where we honoured the hard working volunteers in the association and laughed out loud!"
There was a brief Annual Report for our AGM including announcing the new committee....more to follow

2021 Activities summary
Summary of annual report
The 5049 Coastal Community Association communicates and consults with residents of 2300 homes in the 5049 postcode - represents their concerns to Local, State and Federal Governments; other organisations and agencies (including commercial interests); and actively works to improve the local physical and social/cultural environment to make this a vibrant, responsible and successful community
We take on more than a “watching brief”. Acknowledged as one of the most effective Resident Associations in the State, we are regularly sought out by Governments, organizations and agencies to provide insights into local issues. We conduct a range of public events; communicate directly with households through a range of media, and have a high profile in working effectively for the community.( see strategic plan on a page)
We have a strong reputation for fearlessly and effectively achieving results, whist remaining politically unaligned. Our focus is on communication, public engagement and advocacy.
The Association continues to be strong, with over 700 signed up members and approximately 50 active volunteers.
We have maintained regular communications with all residents in our western postcode area(2300 homes), through our quarterly newsletters, Facebook page, website and monthly E-newsletters to signed up members.
Through engagement and advocacy with Holdfast Bay Council, Marion Council and our State and Federal members, we have seen positive progress on a number of issues which will improve our community.
Sponsorship remains solid and we have applied for and received several local Council and State government grants to assist our work. Our bank balance as at 30/6/21 was a healthy $15,308.96.incluidng unspent grants, by the end of 2021 we should have a surplus of approx. $3500. For full report see below.
This is an election year for the Association 1/2 of the longest serving members of the committee will resign and choose to re-nominate. Liz is passionate about volunteering and the difference it makes to the community, particularly those with a disadvantage. She has been a resident of Seacliff and SA for just three years but a fair track record of volunteering contribution made in that time. Strong background in the management of community services and business. |
The poetry of Marino has been with me since I was a kid… the apparent remoteness and sense of adventure in a coastal playground. Now returned I am pleased to be involved in the community. I am an architect and have a strong interest in urban planning, landscape, and cultural history. I swim and get to the beach at every opportunity. Communication, environment, open space, sustainability and identifying with the many unique aspects of the Coastal Community and traditional place of the Kaurna people inspire me to give what I can to keeping that special poetry alive. |
