Coastal Path Works
We were all pleased to see the completion of the Coastal path at the end of May 2018. Overall the path has and its features has been well received including the new toilet block "dunny- dune", with its great local photographs. The reinstatement of the new Tramway plaque has been well received. There are still some minor items to tidy up including the reinstatement of the impacted landscaped areas, new fencing to the car park and more planting subject to agreement with the local Kaurna elders. The original surf life saver sculpture has been reinstated.
It is clear that the number of users has increased; a figure of 1000 visitors/week was mentioned! Anecdotally there is more traffic as we all enjoy our summer in Kingston Park.
There was a recent legal challenge on the original approval for the coast path by a senior Kaurna Elder which prevented any further works on the coast path or the master plan over the last 5-6 months. As a result the momentum achieved following our Public Forum in May has been on hold. This matter has now been resolved and we have written to council on the communities behalf to encourage re-commencement of activities towards completion of the coast path reinstatement works and progress on the master plan. Here is the reply
The response included some key positive outcomes:
The 5049 CC will continue to liaise with Council on the short term and long term solutions for the balance of the reserve whilst the Master Plan is developed.
Vehicular access and parking continues to be a major tension for this site. One that Council are seeking to addresses in the short and long term.
