WHO SPEAKS FOR THE TREES

Since the end of 2017, DPTI no longer needs to ask for Government permission to remove trees for its projects, even if they are large trees. Trees are being removed in increasing numbers from private land, predominantly for urban subdivision of large old blocks with mature trees.

My clear memories were of vast open spaces east of the rail line; and a few modern houses west, surrounded by sometimes shoddy holiday shacks, some previously occupied by smugglers according to local legend.

HOLDFAST BAY ENVIRONMENT STRATEGY

The City of Holdfast Bay Environment Strategy was approved in March 2020. It uses strong and powerful language regarding the need for urgent, community wide action in order to reduce climate emissions and create a truly environmentally sustainable future (both locally and globally). The phrase "towards and beyond environmental sustainability" was apt.

AS I REMEMBER IT - SEACLIFF 1950

On Saturdays we would be allowed to join the adults in the green, shady beer garden of the Seacliff Hotel, where the kids would be treated to pints of raspberry and lemonade, the women sipped their hock, lime and lemon drinks (or Barossa Pearl if it was a special occasion), and the men “shouted” rounds of beer.

Hooded plovers in seacliff

Hooded Plovers are Australia’s most endangered shorebird with only 7000 in Australia and less than 800 in South Australia. Since 2016, a pair of hoodies has nested at Seacliff and has successfully fledged 5 chicks in 4 seasons, one of the most successful breeding records.
