Seacliff Tennis Club is looking to re-connect with past players and members to welcome them to the 2021 centenary celebrations.
My clear memories were of vast open spaces east of the rail line; and a few modern houses west, surrounded by sometimes shoddy holiday shacks, some previously occupied by smugglers according to local legend.
On Saturdays we would be allowed to join the adults in the green, shady beer garden of the Seacliff Hotel, where the kids would be treated to pints of raspberry and lemonade, the women sipped their hock, lime and lemon drinks (or Barossa Pearl if it was a special occasion), and the men “shouted” rounds of beer.
Thank you to those who attended our final “History Night” event for 2018 for the 5049 Coastal Community; and “Oh What a Night It Was!”
This one provided the 5049 Coastal Community residents with the opportunity to hear from, both official and unofficial experts on local history of Marino, Kingston Park and Seacliff, both pre- and post-European settlement, in a fun and interactive way. Over a 120 people joined us in the upstairs Function Room of the new Kauri Sports and Community Centre, enjoying complimentary drinks and nibbles, the fabulous view over the coastline, and discussing the many historic photos and maps on display for the evening
