City of Marion released their 5 year program of streetscaping works. The City of Marion issued its draft streetscape guidelines in December 2016. It is a well constructed document with good graphics. It contains broad design guidelines for a consistent approach to upgrades and new developments Marion wide.
These guidelines were not released for any community input. The currently endorsed action plan is to be implemented based on the draft guidelines. It contains sound design principles however it doesn’t appear to make any distinction between the very different characters of the north and south of the council area. The Council have developed a priority program for a $2m spend this year on streetscaping plus $200K for tree planting. Marino has some work planned for Newlands Ave and Angas Crescent along with strategic street tree planting. The work on Newlands Ave has recently commenced. Street tree planting in particular is a vexed issue with the perennial concern over loss of views. The Association and local Ward Councillor Tim Gard has ongoing concerns about the fairness and equity for Marino which has lagged behind other suburbs and requires significant catch up in this area. Let us know what you think about the guidelines and the specific issues for our area. Streetscape Project May 2017 document to General Council Meeting (item 13 page 161) Comments are closed.
